Hey Matt,
It was definitely time for Matheson to go. I agree he probably became the poster child for everything wrong with the Panthers, but he did seem to make an ever-increasing number of mental mistakes in his game. The talent is there, but over the past few years, he just seemed continuously confused by the system. Getting rid of Matheson isn't going to fix the Panthers' defense, but it does go a long way to removing a large number of mistakes. I hope the new environment and fresh opportunity in Pittsburgh serves him well; I wish him the best.

I was surprised to read so many negative comments about Colton Sceviour in the Pittsburgh write ups. I think the Panthers will miss his defense, strong & reliable penalty kill, and ability to generate short-handed goals. I am sad to see him go. I think Penguins fans will be very pleasantly surprised at his game.

Go Panthers!

Hey Jimbo -

I agree with both assessments here

I think Pens fans will like Sceviour, too. He was a reliable player for the role that was carved out for him in Florida and if that’s an element that Pittsburgh needs, he should fit in well.

Matheson has potential. We saw it in flashes and know that teams are usually willing to take a chance on guys like that because they feel they can get them to work in their system. It just wasn’t working here. Curious how things will pan out.

I can’t wait to see what Zito continues to do..!

No reason to get excited about this for either team.

What? The MCG party (Matty’s contract GONE) is still raging from last night

Panthers got rid of a burdensome long term contract, that now opens up room to actually improve their defense. FL also adds a hard nosed player like Hörny, a trait sorely missing in Pantherland, well, outside of the guy they call Cookie. Whatever point production they get out of Hörny is a plus, he’ll get his share standing in front of net on PP. I see his biggest value being in showing what it means to really be willing to do whatever it takes to win. Panthers all say the right things, but their play too often doesn’t equal their words. Hornqvist is a good addition for the Panthers.

This trade might work for both teams just fine. Hörnqvist is old and could break down in 1-2 years easily but is a warrior and will be a good locker room guy for your young team.
He just couldn’t keep up with Crosby and Malkin anymore. No wheels or hands to be in the top 2 lines in Pittsburgh that’s why it was easier to see him go..
I like what I see in Matheson’s game aside from this last year. He always seemed to be noticiable in a good way whenever we played the Panthers.
As for Sceviour we didn’t really need him since we have some guys (Lafferty, Miletic) waiting for a chance on the 4th line but the coaches might have asked for him. Hard worker.

Maybe if Zito has a deal in place to move Yandle, otherwise this would be not what FL needs to help their defense.

I sure dont feel krug is the answer. Offensive defense is not the problem. Need some defensive dmen. Also i was shocked to read all the comments about how good mathesons shot is..... i never saw it shoots hard enough i guess as long as the net is 8ft wide

Who will be their draft pick, if the top ten players are chosen as expected?
Who of the forwards in the 11-15 range are really centers? They all seem to be listed as center, but in reality play predominantly on either wing.
Do any of the dmen after Sanderson and Drysdale warrant 12th pick as compared to the forwards who’ll be available?
FL needs to fill the pipeline at Center, but, from what I’ve seen of him, I wouldn’t mind them taking a shot at Seth Jarvis. Kid looks like he could be a star.
